Kia ora, I’m Dom, a landscape photographer based in Te Waipounamu, the South Island of Aotearoa New Zealand.
I’m self-taught, and my work is about spending time in wild places and trying to do them justice. Over the past decade, my photographs have found homes around the world in over a hundred homes, which still quietly surprises me.
I’m most at home in the lower South, with long coastlines, backcountry valleys and weather that rarely behaves. Mountains tend to draw me in, but I’m just as interested in forests, rivers and the overlooked corners people can ease past. I care more about light, atmosphere and timing than polish. I’m usually chasing moments that are gone almost as soon as they arrive.
My background in Geography, with minors in Ecology and Environmental Management from the University of Otago, shapes how I see these places: as landscapes always in motion, shaped by climate, water and time. It influences where I stand, what I wait for, and how I think about the changes I’m documenting.
